They are generally ineffective at any distance other than standoff ranges unless equipped in large numbers, where a single salvo can cripple or at least heavily damage an enemy with the opening punch. They have much better homing capability than SRMs or MRMs, but deal less damage. Their primary weakness is that in order to track the enemy, they must lock on, a process which takes several seconds, and frankly is a pain in the ass for some. The purpose of LRMs, unlike MRMs and SRMs, is to provide artillery support - they are perfect for softening up an enemy at extreme ranges, and are excellent for damaging emplaced defenses and the like. The missiles are much smaller than SRMs, and tend to cluster, giving the illusion that they are only 2 missiles when you launched about 10. LRMs and CLAN LRMs: LRMs (Long-Ranged Missiles) Fire long-ranged, high-explosive missiles that fire in short bursts. Add them to a Mech that needs a little extra close-range punch, or slap multiples on to make a close-range powerhouse. The guidance turns a weapon of questionable efficiency into one of respectable efficiency. They lose a little in the way of damage, but it's impossible to find a more efficient weapon for the tonnage - they are just that damned good. Simply firing Streak SRMs at a target in your crosshairs causes them to unerringly seek their intended victim. Don't use them as a mass-overrun weapon their innaccuracy means they aren't really good at delivering a knockout punch.ĬLAN STREAK SRMs: SSRMs (Streak SRMS) are identical to SRMs in every way except one - they have a homing system that has a near-instant lockon. They're not a heavy hitter, but they offer a good, solid-shell alternative to a laser. They are normally given to a Mech that has a little extra tonnage to kill and can afford to have a little extra in the ways of close-range punch. SRMS are "Filler" weapons, plain and simple. They have small and insufficient engines, but make up for this by packing more exposives into the individual warheads than their larger counterparts. SRMs: SRMs (Short-Ranged Missiles) are direct-fire explosives ordinance weapons that fire in short, but furious salvos.
